Music Declares Emergency is a group of artists, music industry professionals and organisations that stand together to declare a climate and ecological emergency and call for an immediate governmental response to protect all life on Earth. We believe in the power of music to promote the cultural change needed to create a better future.
MDE welcomes resources and engagement to expand on a number of major campaigns that aim to position the UK music industry as the world leader in sustainability. MDE relies predominantly on the goodwill and free time of volunteers and depends on financial donations to fund research, outreach programmes, campaigning and information sharing. We therefore welcome engagement from individuals and organisations who wish to share their skill-sets, knowledge and enthusiasm as well as financial contributions to sustain this important work.
You will have seen our slogan as worn by Billie Eilish at the AMA’s and displayed by Foals, The 1975, SlowThai, Idles, Jarvis Cocker and Johnny Flynn.
In 2020 we will be gathering the power of our collective audiences to create a huge wave in speaking up and out on the climate and ecological emergency.
We are also in the process of making a short film with a globally renowned, award winning production team.
Following an extremely positive meeting with Frans Timmermans, Vice President of the European Union and Climate Action Commissioner charged with driving the Green Deal across the continent, Music Declares Emergency is continuing discussion with the EU and planning campaigns around COP26 to lobby for a net zero target date of 2030 and a commitment to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels.
We believe that single use plastic in venues and at festivals is no longer justifiable.
Examples around the world tell us that there is a better way. It’s time for the UK to get on board. We are calling on venues and festivals to join the consultation process for this important campaign
Music Declares Emergency are calling for an end to CD Jewel cases. Jewel cases are made from polystyrene which has a very high footprint to manufacture and is non-recyclable, the footprint of card sleeves is 95% lower!
We believe that you have to measure to manage. MDE can help, advise and guide the best way to assess, monitor and reduce your emissions via the Julie's Bicycle Creative Green Tools, originally designed for the music industry. Contact us for more details
MDE is a central point of contact for all sectors of the music industry to share information and best practice around sustainability, highlighting initiatives and connecting like minds. We are working on resource hubs for the entire industry that will help organisations to improve their business practice.
