V23 STUDIO

An exclusive design from the legendary V23 studio, the people who made sleeve art for Pixies, The Breeders , The Cocteau Twins and a host of other legendary bands. Dedicated to V23 founder Vaughan Oliver by his long term artistic partner Chris Bigg, the design takes its inspiration from their work on the sleeve for Pixies breakthrough album, Bossanova.

JOY DIVISION & PETER SAVILLE

Peter Andrew Saville CBE is an English art director and graphic designer. Peter Saville has reworked his iconic Joy Division ‘Unknown Pleasures’ artwork for Music Declares Emergency. The original image, showing radio emissions given out by a pulsar, or a “rotating neutron star”, has been reworked into flat lines, symbolising the eternal silence of a dead planet. Copied by millions, this 2021 reworking stays true to the original Joy Division artwork with the text placed underneath the waveform design.

AFRO DECO

Natasha Lisa is a London born jewellery designer and illustrator from Hackney. Operating under the Afro Deco label, Natasha has created original work for Paloma Faith, Shingai Shoniwa and Kwaye. She created this exclusive image in support of Music Declares Emergency in January 2021 which references the stylistic influences of Art Deco design and the vibrant patterns of Dutch wax fabric.

LUKE PREECE

Luke Preece is a UK-based illustrator. His work combines the visceral power of Heavy Metal iconography and the intricacy of 70s/80s science fiction. Clients include Santa Cruz Skateboards, Tony Hawk, Bethesda, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Metallica, Slipknot, Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, and Metal Hammer magazine amongst others. Luke has created two exclusive designs for Music Declares Emergency in 2021, the skull and flame imagery representing ecocide and planetary destruction.

CLASSICAL DECLARES

This design, created by BAFTA Award-winning composer Ellie Wyatt, marks the launch of a new wing of Music Declares Emergency. Classical Declares is bringing the support of world famous orchestras, composers and instrumentalists into the fight against government-inaction on climate and ecological destruction. Ellie Wyatt has worked as a string arranger and player with multi-million selling artists Nick Cave and Caro Emerald, The Stereo MC’s, FINK, Orbital, DJ Format and Del Amitri.

Best known for being the front man of Radiohead, Artist Thom Yorke has designed this T-shirt in collaboration with Stanley Donwood exclusively for Music Declares Emergency. This t-shirt is made from certified organic cotton and printed in the UK in a renewable energy powered factory.

Best known for his cover of the Sex Pistols’ album Never Mind the Bollocks Here’s the Sex Pistols, Artist Jamie Reid has designed this T-Shirt exclusively for Music Declares Emergency. This T-shirt is made from certified organic cotton and printed in the UK in a renewable energy powered factory.

Are these sustainably and ethically produced?

Yes. These t-shirts are ultra-sustainably produced. They are manufactured using the idea of a circular economy - each t-shirt is printed to-order to avoid waste stock and can be returned to Teemill at the end of its usage to be recycled in return for store credit. The t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton which is grown in India using natural fertilizer and rainwater irrigation. They are manufactured in a socially responsible way with 100% renewable energy used throughout the supply chain. SA8000 certified (Social Accountability audit) and GOTS certified.

Where does the money from sales go?

Each t-shirt sold raises money for Music Declares Emergency. We are working to raise awareness and encourage government action on the climate and ecological crisis through music, the music industry and audiences. Our funding is run through environmental charity Julie’s Bicycle, a registered charity in England and Wales number 1153441.
