NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET T-SHIRT DESIGNS

JOY DIVISION & PETER SAVILLE

Peter Andrew Saville CBE is an English art director and graphic designer. Peter Saville has reworked his iconic Joy Division ‘Unknown Pleasures’ artwork for Music Declares Emergency. The original image, showing radio emissions given out by a pulsar, or a “rotating neutron star”, has been reworked into flat lines, symbolising the eternal silence of a dead planet. Copied by millions, this 2021 reworking stays true to the original Joy Division artwork with the text placed underneath the waveform design.

Are these sustainably and ethically produced?

Yes. These t-shirts are ultra-sustainably produced. They are manufactured using the idea of a circular economy - each t-shirt is printed to-order to avoid waste stock and can be returned to Teemill at the end of its usage to be recycled in return for store credit. The t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton which is grown in India using natural fertilizer and rainwater irrigation. They are manufactured in a socially responsible way with 100% renewable energy used throughout the supply chain. SA8000 certified (Social Accountability audit) and GOTS certified.

Where does the money from sales go?

Each t-shirt sold raises money for Music Declares Emergency. We are working to raise awareness and encourage government action on the climate and ecological crisis through music, the music industry and audiences. Our funding is run through environmental charity Julie’s Bicycle, a registered charity in England and Wales number 1153441.
