ABOUT MUSIC DECLARES EMERGENCY

Music Declares Emergency has been harnessing the power of music to put the climate emergency on the front page of culture for five years. Our small team have created a community of support within music that encompasses all the major UK music organisations and businesses, over 4000 recording artists and a host of important individuals and change makers within UK music culture.

Through our NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign we have shifted the dynamic of climate communications by on-boarding messengers of global impact, from Billie Eilish and Radiohead to the London Symphony Orchestra and Julian Lloyd Webber. By working across the entire music ecosystem, with a presence at grass roots shows and major festivals we are shifting access to climate activism into the mainstream.

Our NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign is building on the success of our message to create, develop, and maintain a people led community of shared purpose. Launched in February 2024 with the support of the BRIT Awards, the movement is building at pace, creating new climate advocates every week, joined by their shared love of music and commitment to a better future for all.

Music Declares Emergency is an independent charity with no party political or commercial affiliations.

We believe in the power of music to promote the necessary cultural changes to create a greener, fairer, better future.

Lewis Jamieson (he/him) - Chief Executive Officer

“The music I love has always been about more than tunes, it has informed my thinking, my beliefs, my morality and my hope. As a teenager it literally kept me alive. I wanted to work with the industry I have worked in all my life and the talented artists that it supports to create something supportive, provocative, forward facing and, ultimately, successful in bringing music to the forefront of the push for faster and more meaningful climate action. I think Music Declares is doing that and I think we can do a lot more in the coming years.”

Lewis Jamieson has worked in music all his adult life, signing and managing artists, and handling their PR.

Coming together to take action and make change is the best antidote to climate anxiety!”

Ella Harris (she/they) - Campaigns Manager

“For a long time, I felt pretty helpless as a musician—having to fly constantly for gigs and pushing merch or vinyl just to make a living felt like I was stuck promoting exactly what I didn’t believe in. Joining MDE has been a game-changer; it’s given me a sense of hope and connected me with others in music who are fighting for a greener future. Every day, I’m learning more about how music and activism can really come together to push for sustainable futures.

Ella Harris is a musician in ‘PVA’. They've worked in campaigning for the last 8 years.
